What's In Bloom Today?

By: Sandra Nelson

Blue Mist Spireas , or bluebeards, are stealing the show right now.

Bees, butterflies and other pollinators flock to this lightly fragrant but always showy deciduous shrub throughout its lengthy fall bloom period. Caryopteris is easy to grow in a full sun, well-drained location, but does not like wet feet!  It is root hardy in our area, but will often lose stems in our cold winter climate. Pruning in the early spring will promote vigorous growth and full flowering since it blooms only on new growth. Caryopteris makes a beautiful hedge or massed planting.
